Fresh from Pitshanger Party in the Park in late June, Will to Win headed to Chiswick’s Super Saturday of Sport at the start of July. It was Will to Win Chiswick’s turn to represent the community sport enthusiasts (us!) and where better than to take part in the annual event that celebrates the sport on offer around the Chiswick and Turnham Green area.
Super Saturday of Sport aims to connect those in the community with clubs and activities in their area, helping those of all ages discover or reinvigorate their sporting passion. The event has been a stalwart of the community since its inception in 2013 and has seen over 25000 visitors and 100 sports clubs in attendance, across their various “Super Saturdays” across south, central and north London. The sun made a welcome appearance for the 2019 event and it really helped everyone enjoy as much free sport as they could!
Our founder and owner, Steve Riley, tirelessly offered bite size mini tennis sessions to excited toddlers and juniors whilst our Digital extraordinaire Piotr did a fantastic job of capturing those special moments from the event. Of course, our famous tennis ball mascot “Will” turned up as per and took part in mascot race that really is an amazing sight each year.
There really is a real feeling of community and togetherness every time we attend this event and there is nothing we like to see more than 100’s and 100’s of people getting stuck in to a new sport! Tennis, Netball and Football are what Will to Win provide to the community but it was undeniably great to see the more niche sports also making an appearance: Taekwondo, American Football, Kung-Fu and Dodgeball to name just a few. For a full itinerary of how the day pans out, you can visit supersaturdayofsport.net.
A big thank you has to go out to all the sponsors that make the event possible each year and to all the inspirational volunteers who are just so passionate about sport in the community. We cannot wait to be back for Super Saturday of Sport 2020!
