Junior Tennis at Regents Park
At Regents Park Tennis Centre tennis is taught to children from the age of four years old following the LTA’s player development guidelines, which leads players through a series of progressions at mini tennis red level (8&U), orange (9&U), and green (10 &U). Rackets, court size and balls are all abbreviated to cater to the size and standard of the player.
The main emphasis in these sessions will be in developing the child’s fundamental skills including their sending and receiving skills, hand and foot eye co-ordination as well as their movement and balance. In addition to this will of course be the development of the essential tennis skills relevant to the age and ability of the player. It is appropriate to note that children have a window of opportunity up to and around the age of 13 years to develop the fundamental sporting skills, after this time the rate of learning declines. Therefore it is essential for any young athlete that these skills to be worked on and that is why a large part of the sessions will be comprised of exercises aimed at developing this, along side the tennis specific skills.
