THE IMPORTANCE OF SPORT IN A CHILD’S LIFE
Our aim is to provide all children with the knowledge and tools needed to acquire and develop skills through sport that may take them on their journey through into adulthood. The main focus though is on enjoyment through learning and having fun. We are able to deliver a tennis programme through our Schools Development Programme which gives each child the opportunity to benefit from a stuctured but highly enjoyable sporting experience, and through our Junior development path which delivers a structures progression path for individual players that improve and wish to move up to the next level of session delivered at each centre at Chiswick, Ealing, Hyde Park, Regents Park & Greenwich Park - run by www.playzennis.co.uk (opens in a new window)

Encourage a Healthy Lifestyle
Physical education in most state schools has reduced dramatically. Implementing sport into a child’s life teaches children the importance of fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Children need physical activity and participating in sport helps them achieve that. With today’s technological lifestyle and with children spending increasing amounts of time playing computer and video games, daily physical activity is often forgotten. Hopefully, getting children involved in sport helps them to make exercise a part of their lifestyle and enables them to increase the possibility of becoming a healthier adult.
Promote Self Esteem
When children enjoy the sport(s) of their choice and sense they are improving and achieving better targets, they will feel a good sense of accomplishment and, therefore, gain more confidence in themselves.
Learn About Dealing with Misfortune
Succeeding and losing can affect attitudes and personalities and the happiness and well being of everyone. How well people learn to cope with theirs or others mistakes and the challenges that life throws at them can be helped by playing sport from a young age. In sport, children learn how to deal with adversity, mistakes and challenges and by doing so, can learn from a young age, how to cope with the emotions of winning and losing and translate these feelings into their adult lives.
Learn New Skills and Disciplines
Sport allows children to learn new disciplines and skills. They learn to compete against themselves, others and as a team player – this allows them to take these learning tools into adulthood. Participation in sports provides opportunities for leadership and socialisation, as well as the development of skills for handling future success and failure. Moreover, when playing games, children learn how rules work. They see how groups need rules to keep order and that rules take into consideration others thoughts.
Sport encourages time management skills and learning to take responsibility for oneself, preparing and getting there on time – ready to play. With any sport, you have to have the correct sports kit with you for the sport of choice. This enables them to take responsibility for themselves and by doing so, hopefully take it into other areas of their life, for example, school homework and clearing up after themselves.
Have Fun!
Having fun is possibly the most important aspect of playing any sport. Good experiences play an important part in ensuring a happy and healthy person and provides many opportunities for both adults and children alike.
